350 Letham North Fife

350 Letham North Fife.

There is no better teacher than experience and for all who took part in the preparation of the lanterns, 350 will be impinged. We are all required to be more mindful in our actions and consumption of oil, coal and energy wasting activity. A grass roots reaction to the way our conditioned existence is taking us has spawned collectives that advocate another view. Another way which is local, community based, self sufficient in foods, energy saving and mindfulness of our environment. Transition towns are a manifestation of this process.
In a small village outside Cupar in Fife, Scotland about 40 people, spanning several generations, gathered in Letham village hall on Saturday evening. After an opening speech and song we made candle lanterns and then processed together from the hall to the park in the cold, misty evening, with the lanterns bobbing in the dark from their willow sticks.

The shape of 350 had been sprinkled in flour on the grass before nightfall and we placed our lanterns on the lines and stood in silence around this critical number, thinking of those in Copenhagen grappling with how to heal this world.

The song: Be the Change

What will be left
When our children are grown?
Look what has come
From the seeds we have sown.

Pollution,
Resource depletion.

Wake up to our true selves,
Wake up to be the change,
Wake up to shine our light,
Find what can nourish and sustain.

Connect round the world,
We can learn how to share.
We’ve taken so much,
Now it’s time for to care.

Transformation
Of our generation.

Wake up to our true selves,
Wake up to be the change,
Wake up to shine our light,
Find what can nourish and sustain.

Wake up!

Three generations light the candle.

About to parade and mark the moment.

The Light.
